In the name of Amen, the nyne and twentieth

26 day of March in the yeare of our Lord god one thowsand sixe hundred twen=

27 tie and three and in the one and twentieth yeare of the Raigne of our Sove=

28 raigne Lord James, by the grace of God of England Fraunce and Ireland

29 king defend[e]^r of the faith &c and of Scotland the six and Fiftieth I: Edmund

30 Watts of Churchill in the Countie of Som[er]s[e]t and Dioces of Bath and wells

31 yeoman being in [per]fect estate in ^mynde &^ memory I Prayse god therefore Doe make

32 this my last will and testament in manner and forme following vizt First

33 I comend my soule into the mercifull handes of Almightie god trusting

34 to be saved by the meritts of Christ Jesus, and the shedding of his bloud and

35 my body to be Chestid? and buried at the discretion of my executor I give

36 to the poor of the parishe of Churchill twentie shillings I give to the

38 poor of ^the parish of^ Congresbury Twentie shillings I give unto Elizabeth my wife two


40 of my best kyne, one Fether bed and boulster with Coverled Blanckett and

42 sheets therevnto and all my Corme ^growing^ on the grownd upon my Tenement in

44 Churchill aforesaid and the benifitt use and occupation of the pasture

45 groundes belonging to the aforesaid --- untill the feast of Sáµ— michaell

46 Thearch angell next and all the Corne that nowe standeth in my ---

47 and all the wood and Brooms about my howse are giue vnto the said

48 Elizabeth all her gold ringe and the benefitt of all such landes and we

49 tinges obligatory which shee hath in her Custodie and for the recovery of the

50 moneyes due by the same I make her so far for the Executrix is vnto

51 Rotherine my daughter two hundred powndes of current money to be paid

52 vnto her as the feast of All Sth next and twentie poundes more to be

53 paide within two yeares next after my decease quie vnto Hellenam

55 aughter one Hundred and ffiftie poundes of like current money for

56 my will is that the portion and legacie of the said Hellen shall be paid

57 within one yeare next after my decease, and be then put forth and my

58 ployed to good vse for there maintenaunce and fferment provided

59 alwaies that if my said daughters or either of them decease before

60 mariage or age of one and twentie yeares in manner aforesayd that

61 then or their portion foremayne and to be equally a devided amongst

62 all the rest of my Children that shall then be living as aforesaid

34 Item I give unto my sonne John my leasse with all the grownd therein conteyned of

35 the Lands of John Jennings esquirer lyeing in Churchill aforesaid togeather with all

36 my right? terme estate, title and interest in and to the same more I give unto the

37 said John the Cubbord Table boarde Chayers stooles and formes standing in my Parler

38 when I dwell the standing Bedsted in the House Chamber, and all the doores glasse

39 and window peanes about the house all w[i]th? merited? percells? my will is that Elizabeth

40 my wife shall have the use thereof soe long as shee shall remayne sole and unmar=

41 ried Item I give my sister Mary five poundes which my will is shall remaine in the

42 handes of my two brothers John and Edward and then to take such course therwith

43 for her mayntenaunce and good, as in their discretions shall seem in fittest Item I give

44 and bequeath unto Samuell my sonne my lease and tenement with all the

45 growndes therein conteyned called Barnetts lyeing in Congresbury aforesaid

46 which I latelie purchased of Christofer Jones gent together with all my right

48 of the Citty of Bristoll ^marchant^ deceased by his deed Indented under his hand and

49 Seale bearing date the twentieth day of August, in the ffourth yeare of

54 pation of one guis King widdow deceased and now in the tenure of occupation

55 of me the said Edmund Watts or my assignes together withall and singular how

56 ses edifices buildinges Barnes Stables yardes or chardes, gardens, landes tenemente

57 meadowes pastures feedinges Comons woode, vnderwoodes aperteyning for the terme

58 of divers yeares yet enduring or what soever vnto the said Messuage Tenement

59 and yard land belonginge or in any wise apperteyning for the terme of divers

60 yeares yet enduring determinable vpon lives, as by the same Indenture, more

61 playnelie and at large it doth, and may appeare And whereas also the said

62 John ffowres by his like deede Indented vnder his hand and seale beareing

63 date the Coxe and twentieth of August in the Sixt yeare of the Reigne

64 of our said Condigne Lord King James of England ffraunce and Ireland and

65 of Scotland the two and ffourtieth did likewise graunt Bargayne sell alian

66 enfeoffe and confirme vnto me the the said Edmund Watts my heires and

67 assignes for ever, all that said messuage and Tenement and Threescore and

68 seaventeen acres of land meadowe and pasture with thappurtenances whatsoever

69 therevnto belonginge together also with fower other acres of meadowe and pasture

70 with thappurtenance, scituate lying and being in Congresbury aforesaid and

71 now in the tenure or occupation of one William Port the elder his Assigne or

72 Assignes, To have and to hold the said Messuage or Tenement, and Threescore

73 and seaventeene acres with thappurtenances aforesaid togeather with the said

74 ffower acres of meadow and pasture vnto me the said Edmund Watts my

75 heres assignes for ever as in the said Indenture of bargaine and sale likewise

76 more at large it doth and may appeare, All which before recited legacies and

78 every part and parcell of them and all my right title interest terme of yeares

79 and demaundes whatsoever, which I have yet to come vnexpired, and vndeter

82 ffower acres in Reversion of give and bequeath vnto my sonne Samuell Watts

83 and to the heires males of his body lawfully be gotten for ever, And for want of

84 such lawfull issue in will is that the same remayne to a sonne John and the lawfull

85 heires males of his bodie lawfullie begotten at my will and do requier and charge

86 my sonne Samuell Watts as he will answer at the dreadfull day of Judgement

38 Roane Watts being almost of the age of ffoure yeares I do giue and bequeath

39 vnto the said Joane the some of ffiftie powndes of current english money

40 which my will is, that my said Executor within nominated doe forthwith

41 imploy to ther mayntenaunce and bringing vp and in Testman hereof

42 have written this with my owne hand and have hereunto sett my name

43 today, and year above written Edmund Boates. Item doe alsoe

44 giue and bequeath vnto my said daughter Jame the some of ffifty poundes

45 over and above the foresaid ffiftie poundes aboue mencioned And theise

46 ffiftie poundes last menconed to be given doe appoint to be paid at
